Major Figgas was an American hip hop group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, best known for their street-oriented lyrical content and regional impact in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Formed in the Erie Avenue section of North Philadelphia, the group originally consisted of local friends and rappers who united to create music reflecting their lives and experiences in the city.
The crew gained early attention through underground mixtapes and local performances, eventually signing a record deal with RuffNation Records, a joint venture with Warner Bros. Records. Their only full-length studio album, Figgas 4 Life (2000), included the moderately successful single "Yeah That's Us," which reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart. The group received national attention at the height of the East Coast hip hop resurgence, known for their gritty delivery and chemistry as a collective.
Key members such as Gillie da Kid, Dutch, and Ab-Liva would go on to pursue solo careers, while others like Spade-O continued to build their name in the Philadelphia rap scene. Despite their brief commercial run, Major Figgas remains a respected name in Philadelphia hip hop history, influencing future generations of local artists. Their legacy is often referenced in discussions about the city’s independent rap scene and the early 2000s mixtape era.
